Chef Jose Enrique was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and worked in New York, Florida and Louisiana before he returned to his homeland. In 2007, he opened his first restaurant, Jose Enrique, which was named one of Conde Nast Traveler's 105 best new restaurants in 2008. Jose Enrique was chosen as a semifinalist for the 2013 and 2014 James Beard Foundation award in the category of "Best Chef South," marking the first time in history a Puerto Rican chef has participated in this award. In 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Jose Enrique was named a James Beard Award finalist. In September 2019 the new restaurant was included in the list of Top 30 Best Restaurants of the world compiled by Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure.
